Proactive versus reactive
The cost is broader than the assessment.
California law permits an administrative fine of up to $5,000 for each violation, and one citation may contain multiple findings. Historical assessments are only one part of the potential cost.
Responding after a problem is identified may also require leadership, admissions, academic, marketing, administrative, web-vendor, and legal resources. Staff may need to locate current files, reconcile conflicting information, revise documents, update public pages, coordinate approvals, prepare corrective evidence, and verify that every affected version was replaced.
This reactive work can interrupt normal admissions and enrollment operations, create emergency vendor or professional-service expenses, and require repeated correction when ownership and version control are unclear.
